Agent status.
Every agent has one of three statuses: draft, live, or paused.
Draft
New agents start in draft. A draft agent will not respond to real visitors — only the dashboard Preview button works. Use draft while you're still adding documents and configuring voice.
Live
A live agent accepts messages from any visitor who hits the embedded widget (subject to your allowed-domain settings and plan limits). This is the normal production state.
Paused
A pausedagent keeps all its documents and settings but stops accepting visitor messages. The widget shows a brief "unavailable" message instead of a reply. Use this when you need to take the agent offline temporarily — for example, during a knowledge-base update — without deleting anything.
Changing status
Two ways to change an agent's status:
- Overview tab → Status toggle — a quick inline control, no page reload required.
- Configure tab → save — you can also set status when saving other configuration changes.
Preview while paused or in draft
The Preview ↗ button on the agent header always opens the widget in preview mode, regardless of status. Preview mode is labelled with a yellow banner and is only accessible from the dashboard — visitors never see it.
